Updates, Heads Up And Being A Digg King
October 22, 2007
I don’t know what planets aligned in just the right way, but it’s been a Digg-able month for me. I’ve been fortunate enough to land three articles on the Digg.com front page in the last few weeks and it’s generated a lot more traffic than I’m used to.
Digg’s Been Good To Me
Steve left a comment about me “becoming quite the Digg King.” I don’t know about being a Digg King, but it’s making me think a lot about a decision I made a few months ago to spend more time building other people’s blogs and less time on my own.
Originally, I started two blogs with the intention of driving traffic to my free offers. I poured some time and effort into writing high quality posts, and some got good traffic … but it really has been a starting-from-scratch work, and after a while it didn’t seem to fit the “Million Dollar Leverage” philosophy. There had to be a quicker way to generate traffic and build my reputation.
Then I connected with Jon Phillips of SmartWealthyRich and he tapped me to be a founding writer on his new blog, FreelanceFolder. I liked the sound of his goal – 1000 subscribers in 4 weeks – and I signed on to write an article a week. (BTW, it took Jon a little over 4 weeks, but not much. The guy’s a blog subscribing machine).
Long story short, Jon’s a master blog promoter, so the articles I wrote are getting a lot more exposure than I’d get on my own blog. These are the 3 articles that brought a flood of Digg traffic to FreelanceFolder:
- 7 Can’t-Miss Ways To Kick-Start The Writing Habit (586 Diggs and Counting)
- How To Use VMWare To Survive A Computer Crash (590+ Diggs)
- 3 Things Your Customers Won’t Tell You … Unless You Ask (750+ Diggs)
On top of that, the traffic from those articles boosted my own subscriber base. Groovy. And thanks, Jon.
Updates On What’s Been Going On
I’ve been hammering like crazy getting “30 Hours a Day” ready for it’s December re-launch, so it’s been a mad flurry of connecting with various small, medium and heavy hitters in the online marketing arena. November updates will cover more about what’s going on there. Long story short is that word about the the time management coaching I’ve been doing for a few 6-figure-marketers has been circulating, and I’m on the phone now almost every other day coaching someone for their big launch. It’s a lot more fun than chasing down clients myself
The other thing I’ve been working on is mining the **** out of Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula – easily the best product I’ve ever paid full price for. I’m convinced it’s going to add at least one digit to the total take for the December launch. Stay close to this blog for the next few weeks and keep your eyes out as I write some pretty detailed reviews of the goodness within. I’ve been digging through it since June, if that’s any indication of how big a package PLR is.
If you’re planning on doing a launch anytime in the next 12 months jump here and sign up on Jeff’s list and study the emails he sends you. The guy’s a freakin’ master. He’s on my list of people to interview in 2008.
A Big Fire-Eating Heads Up For Halloween
If you don’t know who Ben Mack is, you should. He’s not just the author of the best selling book on Fire Eating (hey, he was young, he needed the money), he’s a massively talented branding specialist. He used to work for corporate America pulling down the big bucks creating nine-figure product promotions (yes, nine figures: that’s over $100 million dollars).
Now he’s quit the Madison Avenue gig and is working his brand-building magic teaching online marketers how to hit it big. I was fortunate to get to be good friends with him before he hit it big online (he took a small list to 30,000+ in a matter of weeks), so there’s going to be some good stuff happening with Ben when I do my December launch.
Ben also wrote a good book called Think Two Products Ahead which was a Amazon.com #1 bestseller in the Business category, and which even features me (if you know what pages to look on). He’s also credited me with helping him push an extra $20,000 out of his initial book launch but I’ll give the credit to Ben. I just kicked him in his team in the ass till they gave 200%.
I also presented last year at his Think Two Sales Ahead seminar in Atlanta, which was a real tipping point for my business (more on that another day).
So the “heads up” is that Ben’s launching a great branding package tomorrow, and he’s leading up to the launch with some insanely high-profile guests over the next 9 days. I’ve been doing some behind-the-scenes time management / project management for this launch, so I’ll give a run-down on the calls and the guests as the calls go through. I’ll post the signup link for the calls tomorrow and you won’t miss a beat.
Keep it rocking -
Dave
